Abstract: In this session, Jill will outline the inspiration for her research around pracademics (those with dual professional experience as practitioners and academics) and summarise how she drew on artefacts as a creative method. During the discussion, Jill will offer insights around the potential of artefacts to enrich research; for example, in terms of the process, the findings, and dissemination. Those attending this interactive session are invited to explore this creative method by bringing an artefact to the session that they believe represents their own professional development so far. During the session, colleagues will be encouraged to share their artefacts and engage in collaborative, reflexive discussions around their professional development.  

Bio: Dr Jill Dickinson is a Reader at Leeds Law School, a Principal Fellow with Advance HE, and a Solicitor (non-practising). Jill’s research interests focus on professional development and place-making, and she enjoys drawing on a range of creative methods in her work. Her recent outputs include a book entitled Professional Development for Practitioners in Academia: Pracademia (Springer Link, 2023), and a multimodal, international Symposia Series with the Society for Research in Higher Education around the future of learning landscapes. Jill sits on a number of editorial boards, and her approach to research has been recognised through the Emerald Literati Awards.
