An Introduction to Spatial Thinking and Analysis Using R as a Crime Mapping Tool
- Date
- Wednesday 11 November 2026, 10am - 3pm
- Location
- Esther Simpson SR (2.09)
Description: This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to spatial analysis using R. Participants will work through a series of guided examples using editable code to learn about topics such as defining units of analysis, spatial data structures (points, lines, and polygons), and their manipulation and visualisation, and the role of spatial dependence. After the session participants should have a better understanding of the relationship between spatial representation, analytical decisions, and interpretation, and how these can be implemented in R.
Requirements: No prior knowledge assumed, but to get the most out of the session read the preparatory material provided and come with a laptop or tablet on which you can follow along. If you have R and R Studio installed you will have more autonomy to edit the examples, but you can follow along without this too.
