Professor Ruth Swanwick

I am based in the school of education and work in the area of childhood deafness, language and learning, inclusive and bilingual education and teacher development. I have been the Director of Research and Innovation in the school for over 5 years and am very excited to be moving from this role to play a part in developing this cross-faculty venture. My research with deaf children/young people, families and educators  in local and global contexts has challenged me to think around ways of developing visual and multimodal inclusive methodologies that capture the complexities of verbal and embodied communication in the context of sensory asymmetries, and that are culturally sensitive.
