About Our Events

Our events are often informal, lunchtime events with a variety of speakers giving short talks about their methodological expertise.

The formats of our events are as follows:

  • What is...?: These are introductory talks covering a method that is not well-known throughout Social Science disciplines
    e.g.
“What is agent based modelling?”, “What is realist evaluation?"

  • The potential of...: These are more advanced and applied talks, illustrating the specific potential of a given methodology
e.g. “The potential of simulations to adjust for measurement error”.

  • Debates in...: This type of event is a roundtable discussion offering a more discursive and critical debate on methods
    e.g.
    “Debates in r
andomised controlled trials: are they truly the gold standard?"

  • Methodological challenges: These are open discussions around specific research questions or methods. Attendees can submit a research challenge ahead of time, and then our ambassadors and other participants provide feedback regarding possible methodologies and ways to tackle the issue.

All colleagues of any discipline or expertise are welcome to attend. You can find our upcoming events here.
